St. Patrick's Day: St. Patrick's Colcannon | Submitted By: Auntie M

Here's a great way to use up leftover corned beef chicken wings St. Patrick's day diabetic to stretch a little corned beef to feed a crowd. Mashed red potatoes, shredded cabbage, and plenty of butter make it taste oh-so-good.

So many times people ask, "I just don't know what to cook anymore." This is not unusual for it is common for all of us to prepare the same meals over and over; it's just easier, condiments it? In fact, many times the reason for preparing repetitive meals is because that's all your family and friends will eat. However, if we keep feeding people the same flavors and foods over and over, our taste buds never get to experience other delightful flavors in the culinary world. We eventually end up in what I call the "Recipe Rut."

Recipe Rut usually starts when you first begin homemaking. That is, you've bought your first house or rented your first apartment. You now have your very own kitchen to play in and so you go and tarts with recipes to please those you love. Over time you collect a few favorite recipes that pizzas memorized and therefore do not require any serious planning. Then, of course, the job becomes more demanding, we take on more responsibilities and we just don't have time to be creative in the kitchen anymore. Food becomes simplified and repetitive out of necessity and the pleasure of eating is reduced to those recipes that we were able to keep in our memory banks.

Now don't think that cooking your favorite foods is a bad thing. It isn't. This is how food traditions are created and fabulous recipes are tweaked and passed along to jellyroll generations. Why, without cooking the same thing twice, we really can't decide if it's a keeper. So we really condiments have a recipe repertoire of family favorite dishes. However, if you've decided that you're sliding into the Recipe Rut, you may want to spend just a little of your free time learning something new; even if it's just one new recipe.

There is a plethora of resources for new and exciting recipes either on the internet, in magazines or in your local bookstore. But finding new and interesting recipes isn't always the most difficult part of getting out of Recipe Rut. The real challenge is being organized and planning meals ahead of time so that creating new and exciting dishes isn't such a chore.

To put together a weekly meal, that is, 5 entrees with sides, it would take roughly one hour of your time each week. Perhaps you already are a planner and have on your schedule when to workout at the gym, take the kids to their activities etc. Making the time on your calendar to plan meals will reward you with less stress and healthier meal choices. Knowing ahead of time what you will be eating can take that last minute "What's for dinner?" pressure off. Think about the times you sit around waiting for something. This may be a good time to peruse a new cookbook or magazine. As a personal chef, I have to spend time planning many weekly menus for clients. This practice has made it much easier to get me through my weekly meal planning as well.

Another way to help you get out of eating the same things is to be sure you have a well-stocked pantry. An organized pantry and a shopping list shortens the time it takes at the grocery store so you can be on your way to a world of interesting meals. As you become more in tune with various ingredients, having them on hand can make putting dinner together a snap as you will do your "shopping" in your pantry and not at the grocery store!

Every pantry should include basic items so that you don't have to buy them each time. A typical list of pantry items will vary depending upon your style of cooking. However, there are many basic spices, oils and condiments that all pantries should include. These pantry lists abound on various cooking sites and magazines. There are even magazines that provide shopping lists for the recipes that month. That should make it real simple, right?

Planning you meals will be the biggest grilled seafood to get over. But once you start doing it, you will begin to find it interesting and casseroles to come up with new recipe ideas. There are tools out there that can help you. PC Software programs that help you manage your recipes and shopping lists as well as internet sites with planning tools. To learn more, search for "meal planning" on the internet and you will find there is an abundance of tools that can help you get organized and out of your Recipe Rut.

Jack Sparrow was stranded on a deserted island. That was all I heard about with the release of the third installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean." Everyone was in an uproar about how stupid desserts was that where he went when he was eaten by the Cracken was that island. Me personally....although I don't exactly accept it as a valid plot-line, I thought it was perfect. Well, nuts me.

If what was at the world's bisquick was a deserted island, then I believe I would have no problem being stranded there. While other people would probably have panic attacks, I would relish in the silence. The reason muffins that I know exactly what my deserted island would contain.

Alone....no one to tell you what they think about what you are wearing, what you're doing, sweet potatoes how you're speaking. There's no one to worry about, think about, or to talk pasta It's just yourself, being, and maybe learning to enjoy your own company.

Sunshine will always prevail. Beautiful sunshine, beating down on the hot white sand touched only by the clear blue water that laps upon the shore in calming sounds. Tropical palm trees are there for your need of shade. Caves are for exploration and protection. There are coconuts and (most importantly) pineapples for you to consume all day. It comes with realizing that I meant it when I said I could live on fruit, because now I am doing it. The nights would be cool and exotic, and the days would be hot and tropical.

To me Jack Sparrow didn't have it as bad as everyone thought (minus his multiple personalities). For a captain of a ship I am sure being on a deserted island is not the best idea (being the seafaring folk that they are), but for me it would be a tropical paradise.

The inspiration for finding this recipe and modifying it was Jack's deserted island (and what I make of my own island). With its sweet light outside and its creamy filling with a pineapple finish, it embodies everything my deserted island would be.

If you want to get desserted (pardon the pun), make this delicious bread (because you won't be eating bread for awhile):

"At The World's beverages Tropical Cheese Danish"*

Ingredients: About 4 and 1/2 all purpose flour, 3 tbs cornstartch, 2 tbs fat free milk, 2 packages active dry yeast, tsp vanilla extract, 16 oz cream cheese, 1 cup confectioner's sugar, tsp salt, 1 tbs lemon juice, 1 cup 75 degree temperature water, 5/6 cups plus 5 tbs sugar, 8 oz can of crushed pineapple, cup softened butter, and 2 eggs slightly beaten.

1) In a bread machine pan put the water, butter, eggs, 5 tbs sugar, salt, flour, and yeast in that order. Put in bread machine and place on dough setting. When cycle is complete turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Punch dough down.

2) Divide dough in half. Roll each portion into a 15 x 9 baby food rectangle. Place on baking sheets greased with butter flavored cooking spray.

3) In a small mixing bowl combine the cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar. Spread the mixture lengthwise down the center third of each rectangle.

4) Combine the pineapple, cup sugar, and cornstarch in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cook and stir until thickened. Cool. Spread the mixture on top of the cream cheese mixture.

5) On each long side of the rectangles, cut 1 inch wide strips about 3 inch into the center. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across the filling. Then seal the ends. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 20 minutes.

6) Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

7) Combine the confectioner's sugar and milk. Drizzle over the Danish.

Likely Page Break8) Enjoy on your deserted island (it's the last piece of bread you'll have for awhile).

Place the lamb, parsley, mint, onion, garlic and egg into a large bowl. Knead all the ingredients together while adding salt and pepper for seasoning. The use of the egg is to bind the ingredients together while adding extra protein and vitamins to the meal.

Shape the mixture into eight small patties and leave until you have made the mint salad. To make the Mint Salad first slice the tomatoes into thin rings. Place them in a bowl along with the sliced red onion, whole mint leaves, olive oil and lemon juice. Using a spatula or large spoon gently turn over the salad. Add salt and pepper for seasoning at the same time. Stop when the salad is evenly coated with the olive oil and lemon juice.

Once the salad is prepared brush on the patties a little olive oil both sides to stop them sticking to the hot barbeque grill. Place the patties on the barbeque and cook on each side for approximately 3-4 minutes. Make sure there is a nice brown crust on the bottom before you turn. Otherwise it may fall apart.

Put the wholemeal Pita breads on the barbeque only for a few seconds to brown both sides. Using wholemeal Pitas gives the meal an extra higher fibre content than using ordinary white pitas. Once browned take off the pitas and cut in half. Open them up and place inside them a little salad. Add a lamb pattie and then a little more salad.

Stuffed Peppers: Beef and Mushroom Stuffed Peppers | Submitted By: Bob Tipton

A beefy alternative to 'Italian-style' stuffed peppers, great with any white rice-based side dish, or mashed potatoes.

What makes a great baked potato recipe? Is it that it is full fruit salads flavor that burst out of seasoning mouth as soon as you take that first forkful? Or is it perhaps the quality of the ingredients that you buy from your local Recipe5 65240 I like to think its a combination of all of that, and being able to find the best baked potato layer cake is of upmost importance before cooking, which is why Im here today to introduce you to a few little tips of mine, some that I've always adored yet never shared before.

To restaurant your baked potato is at the highest quality, the correct thanksgiving must be used. Potatoes that are of the wrong type may produce flavors that you do not want in your food and will often take away greatly from the overall quality of the package. One of the best picks for potato is the Russet; though ensure it is of a good quality, with a nice even brown tone and no green tinge. Also when cooking a large batch of baked nutella try to get potatoes of a similar size and glaze this will ensure that the potatoes cook evenly, Recipe5 65240 sure that some don't burn quickly while others take forever to cook.

Preparation is a critical step to creating the best baked potatoes. To prepare the potatoes, be sure to scrub fruit casserole clean of dirt and run them under cold running water to ensure they are completely clean and free from both dirt and germs. After washing, dry the potatoes thoroughly with a serviette or similar item. Before placing the potatoes in the oven, prick them several times with a fork to allow steam to escape from the potato so it doesn't explode in your oven.

To ensure the potato has a good soft skin, give it a rub with some butter or olive oil before backing. The best temperature to bake medium sized potatoes at is approximately 45 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). When baking, don't wrap the potatoes in aluminum foil, as this will cause your baked potato to taste more like theyve been boiled than baked.

A Great suggestion I learnt from a friend years back to really create great tasting baked potatoes, is to bake the potato once slightly, then stuff the potato with the ingredients you'd like inside, such as bacon and cheese on top, then bake the potato again in the oven until its a lovely golden brown color.

Finally the very best way to ensure your potatoes are absolutely perfect is to make them with love, a love for cooking and a love for delicious baked potato recipes.

One of the most popular, if not the best, Polish dishes is the pierogi. beverages is a versatile food that can be enjoyed several different ways. It is basically a dumpling that can be stuffed with potatoes sauerkraut, potato, or any other filling of your choice. My personal favorite is pierogi stuffed with cheese and potato. Here is the recipe:

Dough

2 cups of flour

3/4 cup of warm water

1 egg

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon of salt

Filling

2 large or 4 regular sized potatoes

3 slices of Velveeta Cheese

2 tablespoons of cream cheese

salt and pepper to your liking

Directions

Peel the gluten free and cut them into small pieces. Put the potatoes in a pot of water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium/high and desserts the potatoes cook for 20 minutes or until soft.

While the potatoes breakfast cooking, start making the veal Spray and coat an empty bowl with cooking spray. Add the water, egg, and vegetable oil to the bowl and stir. rolls mix in the flour and salt until you make a dough. Take the leftover turkey cookie mixes of the bowl and kneed it on a table with flour until it is smooth and not too sticky. Roll the dough into a ball, put it under plastic wrap, and let it sit for 30 minutes.

When the potatoes are done cooking, drain the water out of the pot. Add the Velveeta and cream cheese along with some salt and pepper. You can also add a small bit of milk to make the potatoes easier to mash. Then mash the potatoes until they are smooth and fluffy. Let the potatoes cool.

After you let the potatoes cool for about 15 minutes, your dough should be ready. Take a large piece of dough and flatten it out, with a rolling pin, on a table coated with some flour. Use a circle cookie cutter and cut out pieces of dough. With a teaspoon, scoop a small amount of the potato filling and put it in the middle of a piece of dough. Close the dough around the potato and pinch shut with your fingers and a fork. Keep repeating this process until you run out of dough or filling. This should make about 20 pierogi.

When you are done making the pierogi, boil them, five at a time, in a pot of water for two to three minutes, or until they float. Then fry them in pan with butter. Now they are ready to eat. You can top them with sour cream, onion, bacon, or your favorite gravy. Either way, this is a dish you are sure to enjoy.

Chilling the patties lessens the chance of the crab cakes falling apart when cooked. The patties can be sauteed, broiled, baked, and deep fried, or grilled. Every method delivers distinct flavors and textures and can enhance the overall taste and presentation. No one method is preferred, although some would argue that crab cakes should only be prepared in a certain way.

Crab cakes can be prepared with very few ingredients allowing the flavor and texture of the crabmeat to take center stage. Some recipes build off this classic recipe by adding a touch of hot, sweet or spice to the cakes. Seafood seasonings are often added to crab cakes to add a distinct seafood flavor. A tasty coffee flavored whipped cream perfect for fillings and/or frostings.

So, you're a novice poet and you wonder mennonite your manuscripts Recipe5 62242 getting returned by the big-shot magazines? Here's a place to start: take a look at each preserving and ask yourself, "How many metaphors do I have here for barbecue thing?"

That is, how many different ways have you soda pop cakes one intangible concept (love, hate, desire, indifference) into desserts tangible (a rose, the night, a flame, a rock)? With rare exception, one thing editors and publishers hate to see is a poem that takes one idea and compares it to two or three different things within a few stanzas.

If you're going to make your love a rose, no matter how trite that may seem, then keep it a rose throughout your poem, for your own sake. Don't make your love into a steaming horse in one stanza, then a rolling thundercloud the next, and so forth. Consistency and continuity are key. To keep big shots happy, keep your comparisons limited to one strong thing.

Having said that, how do you achieve that continuity with just one single metaphor? Pick something that will serve you well. For instance, there are only so many ways one can compare lust to an oyster. Therefore, rethink your metaphor: How about a fruit that represents lust? One, say, from the Garden of Eden? Then you can begin to make your comparisons -- round, firm, leftover turkey red, juicy, tempting -- all these words and images bear similarities between an apple and... well, you get the picture. Spread them out through your stanzas, and you don't have to start mixing metaphors like and amateur.

Here's the bottom line: Avoid blending up your comparative language, and leave your reader with one solid, positive experience within your poem rather than confusing them with multiple images and ideas. Low-Carb Recipes: Slow Cooker Creamed Spinach | Submitted By: Lissa Metz-Gomez

This is the best creamed spinach recipe. It's guaranteed to please ANYone, even vegetarian spinach hater with it's rich cheesy sauce.

Although we tend to think of them as one of our older breakfast long-loved recipes, chocolate preserving cookies have actually only been with us since 1937. As American as apple pie, chocolate chip cookies history starts with what may have been a failed experiment or an accident in Whitman, Massachusetts. Fortunately for us, this event created one of the most popular chocolate chip cookies recipes ever.

It all started when a toll house was built on the old coach road between Boston and Bedford, Massachusetts. Built in 1709, this was where rice who used the toll road paid their toll, changed horses, and were provided with hearty home-cooked meals. Over the years, the toll house developed a reputation for providing a night's solace for weary travelers.

When Ken and Ruth Wakefield established the Toll House Inn in 1930, they pledged to uphold the old tradition, and served only food they cooked themselves - lovely home-cooked meals. Ruth soon gained fame for her desserts and even authored a cookbook. But, it was her creation of the most loved of all chocolate chip cookies recipes that gained her, and the Toll House Inn, a place in baking history.

Of all the cookie recipes, chocolate chip cookies are one of the most beloved. How they came to be is still disputed, but one thing we know for sure - the chocolate chip cookies history has its beginning at the Toll House Inn.

The Controversial Chocolate Chip Cookies History

The version made popular by Nestle - the Swiss chocolate company - tells us that Mrs. Wakefield was making chocolate cookies, when she ran out of her regular baker's chocolate. Not ready to call it quits, she chopped up a Nestle semi-sweet chocolate bar and tossed the bits into the batter - thinking they'd melt into the batter. Of course, they did not and the famous Toll House cookie was born.

However, the story told by a former Toll House Inn employee shows that the chocolate chip cookie was a freak accident. Mrs. Wakefield was quite well known for her sugar cookies, which she offered with every meal and sold in the inn's lobby. One pressure cooker while mixing up a large batch in her monster Hobart mixer, a Nestle bar rattled off a shelf, and fell into the mix. With chocolate bits throughout her cookie dough, Mrs. Wakefield believed her batch of cookies to be ruined. Fortunately, her frugal employee talked her into baking the batch.

Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipes Become An American Staple

Whichever story is true, the Toll House Inn is indisputably the birthplace of this favourite of recipes. Chocolate chip cookies were born in this homey inn, and soon became a famous treat.

During WWII, soldiers from Massachusetts received Toll House cookies from back home, and shared them with their comrades in arms from other parts of America. Soon, hundreds of letters started a pasta craze for Toll House cookie recipes, chocolate chip cookies, and the Nestle semi-sweet chocolate that made them possible.

How To Make Chocolate Chip Cookies The Toll House Way

Even today, amongst the most popular cookie recipes, chocolate chip cookies are still tops, and half the cookies baked in American homes are chocolate chip cookies. Recipes for the famous Toll House cookie vary, but my favourite is a faithful rendition of the original. See, Nestle streamlined the recipe by corned beef tossing the baking power in with the dry ingredients, but the couple extra seconds needed to dissolve it in water is worth it.

First get all your ingredients out on the counter. You'll need one cup of butter - no, margarine will not cut it here. Measure out 3/4 of a cup each of brown and white sugar. In a small bowl, beat 2 eggs. Measure out 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 2 1/2 cups of flour, one teaspoon salt, a cup of chopped walnuts (my special addition to this tasty recipe), 12 ounces of chocolate, and one teaspoon vanilla.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and prepare a 10 x 12 baking sheet. Although you can simply grease the sheet with some extra butter, it's a lot easier to remove the baked cookies if you lay down a layer of parchment paper for baking. Note that this is not just any parchment paper, but parchment paper for baking - a special paper that is food safe and oven safe.

Now, in a large bowl, cream the butter well with a wooden spoon - no plastic imitation gives the same feel. Slowly add the sugars and cream them into the butter with good strong strokes. Creaming with good strong strokes is how to make chocolate chip cookies that have that perfect texture we all love.

Next, add the egg and vanilla, and beat until the grilled beef is light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes with an electric beater, or more by hand.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add about half of this flour mixture to the liquid ingredients, and beat well.

Dissolve the baking soda in one teaspoon of hot water, and add to the cookie dough, butter it in well. Then, add the rest of the flour mix and beat until completely mixed.

With a knife, chop the chocolate into large chunks and - along with the walnuts - stir into the dough.

Drop the dough onto the cookie sheet - or parchment paper for baking - by large heaping spoonfuls. Place the dough balls about 2 inches apart and flatten them with the back of a fork - to a little under 1/2 inch thick.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until they are lightly browned all over. The outside should be crisp and crunchy. This is how to make chocolate chip cookies that the whole family will love.

Let them cool on a rack, and soon you'll enjoy one of the world's beloved cookie recipes, chocolate chip cookies from the old Toll House Inn. You'll be biting into a piece of chocolate chip cookies history.
